Open, read and validate an XRechnung

An XRechnung is an XML file. Double-click it and you only see code. Billmorph shows you the invoice in plain form, lets you save it as a PDF and tells you whether it is valid.

Three steps to a readable invoice

  1. Save the file and upload it under Open an e-invoice. ZUGFeRD and Factur-X invoices (PDF files with embedded data) work the same way.
  2. Read the invoice: seller and buyer, invoice number and dates, every line item, allowances, VAT by rate, totals and bank details. Amounts are shown exactly as they appear in the file.
  3. Download it as a PDF for your records or your accounting team.

What an XRechnung is

XRechnung is the German format for electronic invoices under the European standard EN 16931. It contains no invoice image, only structured data in one of two syntaxes, UBL or CII. Since 1 January 2025 every business in Germany must be able to receive such invoices, and German public authorities generally only accept invoices in this format.

Validation with the official KoSIT validator

When you open a file, Billmorph checks it with the validator published by KoSIT, the German coordination office for IT standards, using the official XRechnung 3.0 configuration. It checks the file structure, the rules of EN 16931 (BR-…, BR-CO-…) and the German XRechnung rules (BR-DE-…). Errors lead to rejection, warnings do not. Each message is explained in plain words; see XRechnung validation errors explained.

What happens to your file

  • Processed on our server in Germany (Hetzner, Falkenstein), without AI and without passing it on.
  • The file and the result are deleted automatically after 24 hours.
  • No account and no advertising trackers. The privacy policy is available in German.

The PDF is only a reading aid. Keep the original XML or ZUGFeRD file: it is the legally relevant invoice.

XRechnung in UBL and CII syntax, and ZUGFeRD from version 2 as well as Factur-X, i.e. PDF files with an embedded e-invoice.

Can I open it on a Mac or phone?

Yes. Billmorph runs in the browser, so it works on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android without installing anything.
